This weekend was a big race weekend for the RCPB team, lots of representatives at the BRCA 1/8th rallycross nat’s as well as at regional’s and elsewhere.
First up we had Ashley Evans and he was at Adur with his Tekno SC truck and his Mugen E Buggy. He got the TQ with both ebuggy and SC having a very good day with the ebuggy setting some really fast laps. In the first final with the Mugen E-buggy he had a good start but got stuck under hosing with marshal not noticing and went back to last and half lap down but he kept his head and 8 laps in he caught up and took the lead going on to win by nearly a lap. In the 2nd final he led from start to finish. In his SC he struggled until he found a steering problem then he was back up to speed also winning both finals by a comfortable margin. His E-buggy pictured below.
At the 1/10th BRCA Midwest Regional’s at Coventry we had Nathan Powney, Tommy and Jamie Hall running their XRAY XB2 2wd cars and Felix De Hamel and Mark Fletcher running their Schumacher KF2 2wd car. Mark managed 2 top ten finishes in qualifying and got him 2nd in the B final. The remainder of the team also had great qualifying, all ending up in the C final. Tommy would start on pole, he had a great race and took the win in style. Nathan started 6th, he had a great start and got himself in the mix, home 2nd. Felix started 2nd and he also had a brilliant final finishing 7th, and Jamie started 4th and finished 9th. A very competitive team and a great final for all! It was the last in the series so it was presentation time as well. Nathan took the F5 category. Mark finished the series 9th overall – a great season by him.Felix took 2nd in the U16 pictured below.
Tommy and Jamie took 1st and 2nd in U13 – pictured below with the trophies below.
A great day and series for the team, massive well done to all!
Down in Pembrey at the BRCA Rallycross Nationals were Chris Lovell, Milan Dragojlovic, Matt Box, Elliot Jones, Kong McKenzie, Dom Nunn, Alex Page, Ben Billing and Gary Gregory. The dirt track looked very good and the weather held out for the two days, meaning we had some great racing and fantastic results for the team.
Pictured below Matt and Gary's Ielasi powered Kyosho Mp9's ready to go out in qualifying!
It was Chris Lovell’s first Nitro national with his Mugen MBX7r and he looked very comfortable with the engine powered model. He qualified a very impressive 52nd, a really good result.
Elliot Jones in his 2nd ever national was very consistent, he got up to 95th after the 5 rounds with his Nova Rossi Powered Sworks Evo 2. Gary Gregory running his Ielasi powered Kyosho MP9 got 81st. Alex got 63rd with his Mugen and Kong 50th with his Mugen, Dom got a very impressive 39th with his Radiosistemi RR8 V2. Ben Billing and his Sworks and Matt Box and his Kyosho were neck and neck all day but a fantastic result in the 5th round meant Matt would be 36th and Ben 37th. Milan also had a storming day, he got 15th his kyoshoTKi4 MP9 looked amazing and he was straight into the semi finals. Great qualifying all round by the team.
First up in the finals were Elliot and Gary in the 1/32 A, Elliot (car pictured below) was starting 8th, he made a great start and gained some early places, he was battling hard in the midfield and with less than 3 seconds separating 5th to 8th he was in with a chance of a bump, he came home a massively impressive 6th just behind the bumps. Gary was flying, he took the win in fantastic style, by a clear lap on the rest of the field. Gary bumped into the 1/16th A where he would join Alex. Gary continued his great pace, his Ielasi Tuned engine sounded amazing, he went from 11th to 7th. Alex started 2nd and that’s where he finished, bumping up to the A 1/8th, where he went on to finish 12th.
Kong was in the B 1/8th, he started 5th on the grid and after a great race he also finished 5th. Chris was in the same final as Kong, he was also having a great race, he finished a massively impressive 10th, a great start to his Nationals CV! Matt was starting 8th in his ¼ final, and gunning for a semi with his Ielasi powered kyosho. His car looked dialled and he had an awesome drive, mixing his buggy in with the top drivers at the pointy end of the final, up as far as 4th and in contention for a good part of the race, he just missed out on a semi final bump, with his best ever nationals result of 5th in the ¼ finals. Great job Matt!
In the other ¼ it was Dom and Ben, both also had great pace, Dom ended up a very god 10th and Ben 11th. Well done both, great close racing between the pair.
In the Semi finals it was Milan’s turn, he and his Ninja engine had a pit stop in their pocket and he knew a steady drive would get him in a bump spot to the A Main. He drove a brilliant, mature race and powered home in 4th. In the main he would be joined by the best drivers in the country and on the tight lines of the track it would be a hard place to overtake, he once again had a pit-stop advantage. He started 7th on the grid. He had a stunning drive, competing in the top 5 from the onset, he stayed with the pace as others returned to the pits and he got up to 3rd and that’s where he stayed. His first ever national podium! A great result for Milan and the great points haul meant that he now stands 7th in the national championship.
Brilliant day by him and the rest of the team, rounding off a great weekend of racing all over the UK!
All of the kit and cars that the team use are available from RCPB, and all of our drivers are always willing to help each other as well as other racers, if you see one of us always come and say hello. Until next week - EAT, SLEEP, RACE, REPEAT!
