Sunday 24th January saw the RCPB guys and gals at 2 venues, the Nitro guys were at Ledbury Model Car club for the latest round of their winter series and the 1/10th guys were at the SWIS in Shrewsbury.
Braving the Great British weather at Ledbury (pictured above) we had Chris Lovell running his Mugen MBX7r Eco with Simon and Simeon White running the nitro version MBX7r and other nitro runners were Simon Davies, Shaun Stenson and Andy Prosser running the Radiosistemi RR8, Ben Billing running the Sworkz Evo 2 and Milan Dragojlovic and Alex Page Running the Kyosho MP9. It was going to be a challenging day with over 50 drivers and changeable weather and a drying track.
At the top it was going to be a fightout between Milan and Ben, with Nathan Powney also in the mix running his AE/nova Rossi powered Truggy. After some tough qualifying Milan managed to take TQ by nearly 4s in the final round from Nathan with Ben less than ½ second behind him! Also having a great day were Chris, Simon White and Alex who also made the A final in 5th, 6th and 8th respectively, So once again there would be an A final littered with RCPB drivers. Shaun managed 6th in the B final with his fine looking RR8, Si Davies managed 4th in the C with his RR8 just in front of Andy Prosser in 8th and young gun Simeon managed a superb 8th in the D final. Good qualifying by all the guys and it was going to be a team battle in the finals once again.
So onto the finals and Simeon was up first, a great start put him in the pack but unfortunately he had to retire. Simon Davies up next in the C final and he was on fire, back in form with his RR8, and managed a superb 3rd place with a stunning drive in difficult conditions. Shaun also followed suit and flew in his final managing to take second place. So onto the A final! Milan was on pole and had a great start, unfortunately having to retire, which left the race wide open for the rest of the guys! Ben Billing(Pictured on the left below) as always showed great pace with his Nova Rossi sounding sweet, eventually taking a podium place of 2nd , narrowly missing out on the win from Nathan Powney, the 3rd podium place was also taken by fellow Sworkz driver Chris Leighton for an all Red podium. Chris Lovell in his e-buggy managed to improve on his qualifying place taking 4th and Simon White and Alex Page came home in 6th and 9th. Good day had by all at Ledbury with some excellent fun yet competitive, close racing! Well done to all the Ledbury crew for putting on a great meeting.
Back in the warm at the SWIS (Shropshire Winter Indoor Series)held by ESBRC in Shrewsbury, we had another lot of RCPB guys, Team bosses Matt Box and Chris Ely were in attendance with Tommy and Jamie Hall, all running XRAY, with team newcomer Rick “Kong” Mckensie running the very good looking Yokomo, and they were all running 4wd.
Chris Ely was on fire with his XB4 2016 all day and would take some beating as he eventually took 2nd on the grid in the A final, he was being chased down by the rest of the team who all finished in the top 10, with Jamie, Matt, Kong then Tommy finishing 4-5-6 and 7 overall, young Jamie showing the adults how it’s done by following Chris straight into the A –Final!!! Matt was pole in the B with Kong and Tommy snapping at his heels behind him.
The first final with the RCPB guys was the B Final 4wd, and it was once again going to be a fight out amounts the team. Matt on pole had a great start showing his pace and narrowly took the win and the bump only 2.69s ahead of the ever improving Tommy Hall, Kong also managed a great race, and came in a strong 4th. The A final would now have 4 RCPB guys in it. Tony Bishop and his Yokomo was in pole and he and Chris had been battling all day, and it didn’t stop until the buzzer went and Tony managed to take the win by only 0.31s! A fantastic race and a great bit of classy, yet speedy racing – both guys doing battle on the track the way it should be done. Jamie managed to finish the podium just in front of his brother Tommy with Matt coming home in 6th. Another fantastic Days racing for all the guys at the SWIS, all pictured below with their cars. Many thanks to ESBRC for a great meeting, and a nice change from the miserable weather outside!!
A thoroughly enjoyable weekends racing for all the guys and gals for RCPB, and some podiums to boot! Well done all!!
