Another Win for Lovell @ Nitro X Cross

Posted by Jules exall on

This weekend was the 3rd round of the Nitro X Cross Winter series at the Swindon Race Club. This Tricky but flowing Astro track is fast and fun and conditions on the day were pretty good for December.

As usual the racing was flooded with RCPB Drivers. In the Electric class we have Chris Lovell and his new MBX7R Eco. In Nitro we have Matt Box and Alex Page running Kyosho Mp9, Shaun Stenson, Andy Prosser, Gary Gregory and Simon Davies running the Radiosistemi RR8 and Simon and Simeon White running the Mugen MBX7r.

It was going to be a good day for all of the drivers, best of all for Chris Lovell who managed a superb TQ with the Hobby Wing powered car, he has only driver the car twice and he made it look like a lifetime with a very smooth run in qualifying to get pole in the finals.

In Nitro everyone also had some clean running – Young Simeon White managing a 35th in round in round 2, His dad Simon managing a 3rd in round just after – out of a field of over 50 drivers and Simon ended up 4th on the grid for finals.  Ben Billing managed a TQ in round 2 but only managed 2nd on the grid for the finals after splitting the round Tq’s with Tony Truman and eventually pole sitter Jon Howells. Alex Page (pictured below in full flight)was also showing good pace and managed 9th in the A, with the Reds R7 sounding sweet all day.

Matt Box qualified 5th right behind Simons White – it was going to be a tough final for the RCPB crew.  Shaun got 4th on the line in the B final and Simon Davies just behind him in 10th on the grid. Gary Gregory pulled off the pole in the C final with Andy Prosser was 5th in the D, and Simeon unfortunately pulled out due to some technical issues.

First Up in the finals was Andy Pictured below on the rostrum (centre) – who had an awesome drive, bringing home the Bullett powered RR8 in 2nd and gaining the bump into the C with Gary Gregory.

Gary was pole and looking for the bump but was unable to start due to an accident in the warm up causing car issues, so it was down to Andy. He once again had a great final managing to battle up from the back of the starting grid to sniffing distance of another bump and managed a superb 7th. Up next was the B, and Shaun and Simon Davies in the battle of the RR8’s. They had a good battle in the midfield of the racers, and after some good clean driving made it to 6th and 9th place respectively, Shaun just missing the bump into the A final. So – the A final was going to be interesting with 4 RCPB drivers in it, but Ben Billing stole the top spot in nitro with another stunning drive, getting an eventual 3rd – completing the podium behind fellow sworkz driver Chris Leighton and championship leader Jon Howells. Matt Box had a good final too, having an incident early on but then having the pace and luck to overtake the majority of the field, with his MP9/Reds R7 bringing  home 5th Spot just in front of Simon White who finished 9th and Alex who retired. Onto the Electric class and it was Chris Lovell who lead from start to finish, the car looked on rails, and that’s after little practice and only on its 2nd outing, he went on to storm the final by over a lap on the rest of the field and the top spot for the day for the RCPB team. Chris is currently 3rd in the championship and will no doubt take some beating with his new ride in the rest of the series.

All of the Cars and Engines the RCPB team run are available to purchase through RCPB, for more of our products check the website or get in touch via email/phone or facebook. Until next week folks, we wish you a happy New Year and hope that 2016 is your year in RC! EAT SLEEP RACE REPEAT!
